THE Pinewood Derby

The Pinewood Derby is the signature Cubscout event.  Over a period of 6 to 8 weeks cubs design, build, and decorate their cars for race day with limited adult assistance. Derby kits are supplied by PACK 190 to all cubs. Extra kits for siblings or mistakes can be purchased for a small fee. Cars of all makes, models, and designs are allowed but must comply with the PACK 190 rules or will be disqualified on race day. Dens are strongly encouraged to help cubs who do not have access to tools and set aside some time to paint, weigh, and prepare for the race so all cubs can take part.

On Race Day:

Each car is inspected and those that comply with the rules are placed in the impound lot for the race. Cars that do not comply must be modified in order to enter so make sure to arrive early to allow time for adjustments if necessary. Each car will be entered into a Den class (Tiger, Wolf, Bear, Webelo I, or Webelo II) and will race 6 times, once on each track. The top three cars in each class will proceed to the finals.  Pit Row will be open at limited times: damaged cars will be allowed up to 5 minutes for repairs based on the discretion of the Derby Chair and Derby rules. Modifications may only take place between class and final events and cars must be returned immediately to the impound lot after a second inspection. A special sibling class will also take place after the finals.
