Den Meetings

Dens are groups of (ideally) 6 to 8 youth of the same age and gender. The den is the primary means of delivering the Scouting program in Cub Scouting. Den meetings usually happen twice a month for an hour (45 minutes for Kindergarten-aged dens). Den meetings focus on accomplishing “adventures” detailed in the handbook for each year. Those adventures may focus on learning skills such as first aid, hiking, camping, cooking, arts & crafts, and engineering, or pursuits like coin collecting, understanding government, history, or growing their relationship with God.

Each den is led by at least two parents, who are registered, trained leaders. In the Kindergarten- and 1st grade-aged dens, responsibility for planning and running meetings is rotated through all parents in the den under a shared leadership approach.

Pack meetings are the monthly gatherings of all youth members from 1st to 5th grades. (Kindergarten-aged youth are only invited to certain pack meetings, based on the program of that particular meeting.) Pack meetings are when awards are distributed and advancement is recognized. The program of the meeting is usually organized around a theme, and may involve different demonstrations, fun games, obstacle courses, or other outdoor activities.
